Santa Monica Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Group (SMOG) has grown to be the premier orthopaedic, sports medicine, and football medicine practice in West Los Angeles and surrounding areas. A founding member of the Kerlan-Jobe Institute and an affiliate of Cedars-Sinai, SMOG is positioned to better serve our patients, our community, the region, and the world. Our practice consists of 14 physicians in collaboration with an additional 24 physicians within the Kerlan-Jobe Institute, all of whom meet the highest standards of education, training, and experience in the field of orthopaedic medicine. We are a proud affiliate of Cedars-Sinai, have a partnership with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) to treat paediatric orthopaedics, and work closely with Providence Saint John’s Health Centre.

Many of our physicians are involved in the development of new techniques and treatments to remain on the cutting edge of orthopaedic, sports, and football medicine. This includes leadership, research, and collaboration past and present with the National Institutes of Health, several sports organisations such as FIFA, Major League Baseball, US Olympic Committee, US Soccer, Major League Soccer, CONCACAF, as well as some of the world’s leading medical technology companies. In addition, together with the Kerlan-Jobe Institute, SMOG and its partners have developed a nationally recognised fellowship programme that annually trains 13 surgeons from around the country in the most advanced techniques of patient care for all aspects of sports medicine.

The mission of the Santa Monica Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Group Research Foundation is to achieve scientific excellence by examining existing orthopaedic, sports medicine, and neurological conditions using sound scientific contemporary methodology. Always, our goal is to identify the mechanisms underlying musculoskeletal injuries. Concurrently, we discover, innovate, and develop effective and advanced interventions that include on-field programmes for prevention, stealth methods for diagnosis, and novel surgical and non-surgical orthobiological treatments such as stem cell and PRP for these disorders and injuries.

The Kerlan-Jobe Institute’s mission is to empower patients at any age, in any circumstance, to return to their former level of physical performance or better. To learn more about the Kerlan-Jobe Institute, visit KerlanJobeInstitute.com.
