FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence

Lyon

Two centres in Lyon: the Centre Orthopédique Santy and the Centre Albert Trillat (both under the name of the Lyon Medical Centre) have worked together to become an accredited FIFA Medical Centres of Excellence.

Lyon Medical Centre is very proud to be the first French centre to obtain this label and will continue what has already been undertaken in the sphere of sports in general and football in particular. We will continue to work together to improve care for football players of all levels through improved knowledge in diagnosis and management.

Founded in January 2006 by Dr Gilles Walch and Dr Pierre Chambat, the Centre Orthopédique Santy is dedicated to sports injuries and orthopaedic urgery. For several years, the Centre Orthopédique Santy has been treating many elite athletes and in particular professional footballers from France and other European countries.

All our doctors moved their respective practices and outpatient rooms to this custom-built building, which has transformed the clinic into an internationally recognised centre of excellence for the treatment for orthopaedic, spinal, sports medicine, rheumatology and musculo-skeletal injuries. Our doctors are experts in their areas, leaders in clinical research, and innovators in developing advanced treatment methods. We value a multidisciplinary approach which allows our patients to benefit from the quality and efficiency of the integrated care we provide. We have a close collaboration with Alexandre DELLAL, (Fitness coach in football (OGC Nice) – doctor in science in football – UEFA Professional Licence A) regarding football-related cases.

The Albert Trillat Centre takes care of all amateur and professional athletes and manages injuries in sporting activities through research on risk factors. The centre’s programme combines academic orthopaedic surgery led by Professor Philippe Neyret, Head of the Orthopaedic Department, and Professor Elvire Servien who specialises in sporting injury-related surgery.

The centre’s medical team has a full-time staff in biomechanics, university research lab and applied biomechanics and sports biology lab.

Our university training centre combines a medical clinic, a medical school and a research centre dedicated to the treatment and prevention of injuries and diseases in sports and arthritis. In both national and international education, we have high-level full-time positions in sporting orthopaedic societies. We are a national leader offering university degrees in sports medicine such as degrees in musculoskeletal injuries, sports physiotherapy, knee surgery, and arthroscopy.

The centre is seriously committed to football and sports medicine. Our activities provide research in the field of football injuries and other injury prevention.

The centre has been selected by UEFA for EURO 2016 to provide players with treatment during games in Lyon.
